July Vehicle Sales show continued levelling trend
NAAMSA vehicle sales statistics for July provide a further indication that vehicle purchases are stabilising at a new albeit low level. The total sales of 34 503 units, including sales by AMH, were marginally up on June sales of 33 082 units. Year on year sales are down by 32,7%. Export sales continued to remain under pressure as a function of subdued demand in key export markets. read more »

Toyota comments on Naamsa sales figures for April
NAAMSA vehicle sales statistics for April report total sales of 26 283 units including those of AMH, a 43,7% reduction from the 46 643 sales reported for April last year. Passenger vehicles accounted for 16 748 of those sales, light commercial vehicles 7 481, medium commercials 691, and heavy commercials and busses 1 511 units. read more »

NAAMSA vehicle sales display level trend in March '09
Vehicle sales statistics released by NAAMSA show a levelling of sales through March. Total vehicle sales were 36 331 units including sales by AMH. Passenger vehicles accounted for 23 363 of those sales, light commercials 11 315, medium commercials 672, and heavy trucks and buses 1 006 units. March numbers reflect a slight improvement over January and February but are still down by 30% on March 2008. read more »

High Cost Of Credit and Global Uncertainty Impact On Vehicle Market
The sustained high cost of credit together with consumer caution in the wake of the global economic crisis continued to impact on the South African vehicle market in November with sales down 30% on November 2007. Vehicle exports, although constrained to an extent by diminished demand in overseas markets, were 12% up on October’s exports and show a gain of 86% over November 2007. read more »

Toyota adds 2 new diesel automatics to Hilux Raider range
Toyota made an announcement at JIMS (Johannesburg International Motor Show) that there will be three additions to the Hilux range:
- Hilux 3.0 D-4D Raised Body Raider A/T (with a 4X2 drivetrain),
- Hilux 3.0 D-4D 4X4 Raider A/T, and
- 4.0 litre V6 petrol Raised Body Double Cab Raider (4X2 with 5-speed automatic transmission).
It's the first time that Toyota has offered a choice of a 4-speed automatic transmission on diesel-powered models in its Double Cab line-up. read more »

Toyota freshens appearance of popular Land Cruiser Prado
Toyota South Africa has announced a refreshed cosmetic package for its popular Land Cruiser Prado SUV. These minor changes impact on all models in the range but differ between petrol and diesel models in their application. They provide a subtle difference in appearance for the model going forward into 2009.
The Prado VX Petrol model receives the full cosmetic upgrade with exterior chrome mouldings added to the bottom edge of the side and rear window frames. On the interior chrome surrounds highlight the speaker grilles and the wood grain finishes are now black in colour. The steering wheel now features a dark wood finish. The full range, consisting of the Prado VX Petrol, VX Diesel, and GX Diesel are now fitted with darker 'Smokey Grey' coloured alloy wheels. read more »

Toyota SA has announced that it is to be the the official vehicle sponsor to the establishment of the Freedom Trail, a mountain bike trail across Southern Africa as well as title sponsor of the country’s longest and most demanding cycle race. read more »

Hilux is top-seller in May
The Toyota Hilux is the top selling vehicle in South Africa in May with 2382 sales for the month.
Total vehicle sales reported by NAAMSA for the month were 43 214 units in a month where sales showed a decline of 24,6% over the same month last year.
Toyota sustained its market leadership through May with a 23,1% share of the total vehicle market with 9 975 sales for the month. As the leading vehicle exporter Toyota exported 10 140 units for the month, 43,7% of all vehicles shipped from South Africa. read more »
