Toyota adds 2 new diesel automatics to Hilux Raider range
Toyota made an announcement at JIMS (Johannesburg International Motor Show) that there will be three additions to the Hilux range:
- Hilux 3.0 D-4D Raised Body Raider A/T (with a 4X2 drivetrain),
- Hilux 3.0 D-4D 4X4 Raider A/T, and
- 4.0 litre V6 petrol Raised Body Double Cab Raider (4X2 with 5-speed automatic transmission).
It's the first time that Toyota has offered a choice of a 4-speed automatic transmission on diesel-powered models in its Double Cab line-up. read more »

Toyota freshens appearance of popular Land Cruiser Prado
Toyota South Africa has announced a refreshed cosmetic package for its popular Land Cruiser Prado SUV. These minor changes impact on all models in the range but differ between petrol and diesel models in their application. They provide a subtle difference in appearance for the model going forward into 2009.
The Prado VX Petrol model receives the full cosmetic upgrade with exterior chrome mouldings added to the bottom edge of the side and rear window frames. On the interior chrome surrounds highlight the speaker grilles and the wood grain finishes are now black in colour. The steering wheel now features a dark wood finish. The full range, consisting of the Prado VX Petrol, VX Diesel, and GX Diesel are now fitted with darker 'Smokey Grey' coloured alloy wheels. read more »

Toyota SA has announced that it is to be the the official vehicle sponsor to the establishment of the Freedom Trail, a mountain bike trail across Southern Africa as well as title sponsor of the country’s longest and most demanding cycle race. read more »

Hilux is top-seller in May
The Toyota Hilux is the top selling vehicle in South Africa in May with 2382 sales for the month.
Total vehicle sales reported by NAAMSA for the month were 43 214 units in a month where sales showed a decline of 24,6% over the same month last year.
Toyota sustained its market leadership through May with a 23,1% share of the total vehicle market with 9 975 sales for the month. As the leading vehicle exporter Toyota exported 10 140 units for the month, 43,7% of all vehicles shipped from South Africa. read more »

Toyota takes manufacturer's award on Sugarbelt 400
The Nissan Sugarbelt 400, round three in the ABSA off-road challenge, took place last weekend in KZN. Toyota achieved the following:
- 3 cars of the first 5 in the Production Vehicle category (Cronje/Birkin, Hugo and Jaap de Bruyn, Visser/Badenhorst)
- a class win by Jannie Visser/Joks le Roux,
- manufacturers award win, the 1st one by Toyota this season
As in the previous round, Cronje/Birkin won the Friday prologue to determine start positions but picked experienced a puncture early in the race and then a fuel problem. read more »

Beware: sms scam about winning Toyota 4x4
There is an SMS being circulated about winning a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
Toyota South Africa warns the public against fraudulent text messages informing recipients that they have won a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
The message instructs recipients to deposit money for the delivery costs of the vehicle.
The message is sent under the name of Toyota Kenya and is in no way associated with Toyota South Africa.
Toyota Motor Corporation and its affiliated companies have no involvement with this competition.

Cronje/Birkin win Eastern Cape 500 for Toyota
Mark Cronje and Chris Birkin won last weekend's Eastern Cape 500 in their Castrol Toyota Hilux. They won the Friday prologue (which determines starting positions) and then went on to win by an impressive 10 minute margin.
Birkin and Cronje are the reigning Class A7 champions which has played a role in their win. read more »

Toyota reveals Urban Cruiser at Geneva Motor Show
Toyota unveiled the Urban Cruiser at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Urban Cruiser is a low emission, compact SUV concept that is to replace the Rav-4. It is due for European release in 2009.
