Morrungulu - 2
Luckily for us we were blessed with marvellous weather during our five day stay at Morrungulu and towards the end of it the undesirable currents and high tides had subsided, leaving a stunning tropical beach behind, with coconut palms lining the dazzling white sands.
Yet again, we had the entire resort almost to ourselves and once the weather had cleared up the local fishermen began making regular stops at our campsite to offer us their wares; spoiling us with a fabulous selection of fresh fish.
All the beaches in Mozambique have at least a few small, battered fishing boats lying about and just down from the Morrungulu beach we witnessed what a fiasco these poor fishermen actually have to go through just to get passed the first few waves.
Even with the help of a couple of kids to push them out it took one such team many failed attempts until they finally made it out.
The local women also stopped by on a daily basis treating us to fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes and the small, sweet bananas that are common to Mozambique. We also had our first encounter with a whole coconut… more of a challenge than one would think! It’s important to receive proper instruction before trying this at home.
And so it was that we spent the next few days eating fresh fish and salad and lazing on the beach - working on our tans and splashing about in the warm ocean.
Unfortunately after our fun in the sun at this great resort, it was soon time to pack up again and be on our way.
We would definitely recommend Morrungulu as a stop or destination in Mozambique, if for nothing else than a change of scenery and a break from all the sand, sand, sand.
